The great variety of trees in Apley Woods provided nesting sites for birds ranging from Buzzards to the tiny Goldcrest.

Other birds which prefer to nest high in the trees include the Mistle Thrush, Nuthatch, Green Woodpecker and Kestrel, all of which have been recorded in Apley Woods.
